Amazing creations of nature: lithospheric changes and their consequences
Nature always amazes us with its incredible creations, many of which are the result of complex geological processes that took place over millions of years. Faults, caves, canyons, mountain ranges, underground water channels and craters – all these objects keep the secrets of antiquity and beckon travelers with their mystery.
Landscape wonders of Ukraine
On the territory of modern Ukraine there are dozens of unique geological formations recognized as natural monuments or protected areas. These objects represent not only aesthetic value, but also important scientific objects for studying the processes of lithospheric changes.
The information about all the most significant and at the same time dangerous changes in the soil landscape of Ukraine, their peculiarities, structure and value for visitors is collected here. Many of them have become popular tourist attractions, attracting both professional researchers and ordinary outdoor enthusiasts.
Karst caves of Ukraine
Ukraine is rich in karst formations, and among them numerous caves occupy a special place. For example:
- The cave “Molochniy Kamin” (Zakarpattya) is a unique formation consisting of white and bluish marble limestone. In it were found imprints of leaves of tropical plants about 25 million years old, as well as the site of primitive hunters.
- Mlynki Cave (Ternopil region) is a labyrinth of karst passages with stunning gypsum crystals.
- Marble Cave (Crimea) – one of the most beautiful and accessible caves in Europe, amazed by its huge halls and unique fouling formations.
- Suuk-Su Pushkin Grotto (Crimea) – a small but very atmospheric cave associated with the stay of A. S. Pushkin. С. Pushkin.
Grandiose mountain massifs
Ukraine is famous not only for its caves, but also for its mountain massifs, which were formed under the influence of tectonic processes. Among them:
- Crimean Mountains – a complex system of massifs and ridges that includes Ai-Petri, Demerdzhi and Chatyr-Dag.
- Demirdzhi-yayla (Crimea) – the famous Valley of Ghosts, where stone pillars have acquired bizarre shapes due to weathering.
- Hoverla (Carpathians) – the highest peak in Ukraine, attracting tourists and mountaineers.
Canyons and faults
In Ukraine there are not only mountains and caves, but also picturesque canyons formed as a result of the long-term operation of water flows:
- Dniester Canyon is one of the largest and most picturesque in Europe, stretching along the Dniester River.
- Aktovsky Canyon (Nikolaev region) – a unique rocky landscape reminiscent of the landscapes of North America.
- Butsky Canyon (Cherkassy region) – a picturesque granite rift with the turbulent Girsky Tikich River.
Underground water channels and craters
Underground waters also played a huge role in shaping the landscape of Ukraine. Of interest are such sites as:
- Lake Synevir (Carpathians), a mountain lake formed by an ancient landslide.
- Blue Lakes (Chernigov region) – karst reservoirs with purest water, formed on the site of old peat pits.
- Boltysh meteorite crater (Kirovograd region) – a crater with a diameter of 24 km, formed as a result of a meteorite fall about 65 million years ago.
Ukraine is a country rich in natural wonders created by millennia of lithospheric processes. Caves, mountains, faults and canyons not only decorate its landscape, but also serve as important scientific objects. Today, many of these natural monuments are open to tourists, allowing everyone to touch the Earth’s history and enjoy its splendor. Explore, discover and be inspired by the amazing places of Ukraine!
